Travel Interrupted

Out of Office
Into the World

Journeys carved between deadlines -- where work pauses, the world begins.

Welcome!

With limited holiday allowance and full corporate calendars, we carve our journeys with care. Each escape is intentional — planned between meetings, milestones, and the best of British summer.

We share our travel itinerary, and how it lived up — in case it helps inspire the next traveler when they plan their next holiday.

Please find below, our latest shoulder-season escape. Enjoy!

18 Days of West Java, Central Java and Bali

This journey was a rhythm — from birthday candles to crater lake, jungle lullabies to beach sunsets. Our group of five multi-nationals traveled across Java and Bali, carving 18 days of memory. From fast trains and temple dances to motorbike laughter and waterfall light, this was travel uninterrupted — and joy preserved.

More journeys are being archived as we speak — spreadsheets are syncing, gorgeous food are being remembered. The full Archives section is under construction, but the stories are already on their way.

Why Travel Interrupted?

Because we don’t always have months to wander — but we do have rhythm. We travel in shoulder seasons to be smart about money, to avoid the crowds, and to honor the joy of staying home in summer. We plan with spreadsheets, pack with intention, and chase the kind of beauty that fits between meetings.

Travel Interrupted is for the ones who say “I wish I had more time” — and still find ways to carve it. It’s a journal, a toolkit, and a tribute to the journeys that matter.

🛫

Day 1: Heathrow to Jakarta
A Beautiful Beginning

In the beginning, it was just me and my dear Italian husband, boarding our flight from Heathrow. But this wasn’t just a departure — it was a carefully choreographed reunion. In Singapore, my brother-in-law would join us, flying in from Milan on the same airline carrier. We’d timed our transits to meet mid-journey and board the connecting flight together — his first trip to Asia, and we are very excited for him!

Day 2: Jakarta to Bandung
Speed and Sentiment

We arrived in Jakarta and hopped into a Grab — the country's go-to ride app — heading straight to Halim Perdanakusumah station. From there, the new Whoosh train whisked us to Bandung in under an hour. It felt like time folded in on itself. Waiting in Bandung: my mum, radiant and ready for the days ahead.

Day 3: A Full House for Mum’s 70th

This day was hers — a celebration of seven decades wrapped in love and tradition. Her siblings, lifelong friends, my sibling and their family, our neighbours, and even my own friends gathered in Bandung. The house was full, the laughter louder. We feasted on Nasi Tumpeng, a cone of turmeric rice surrounded by vibrant side dishes, and her favourite cake from Rasa Bakery & Cake, one of Bandung’s oldest and most beloved bakeries. It wasn’t just a birthday — it was a festival of memory.

Day 4: Bandung
Rumah Mode & Warung Nasi Padang

With hearts full and spirits high, we headed to Rumah Mode, Bandung’s iconic factory outlet. Between racks of linen and batik, we found pieces that felt like souvenirs of the soul.At the food court, we sipped real coffee — the kind Italians nod at approvingly. And as our thirst refreshed, so did our wardrobe. That evening, we dined at Warung Padang Sederhana, near Gedung Sate, Bandung’s architectural icon. The spices, the setting, the slow drive back — it was the perfect close to a day of quiet indulgence.

🚆

Day 5: Yogyakarta
Scenic Passage & Ramayana Ballet

We woke early and boarded the Argo Willis Panoramic train — eight hours of cinematic views, where rice fields and misty hills blurred into memory. On arrival in Yogyakarta, we were met by a swarm of local drivers offering transfers. We negotiated a short ride and checked into The Jambuluwuk Hotel, tucked just outside the tourist centre but close enough to feel Malioboro’s pulse.A quick dip in the hotel pool washed off the journey. That evening, we headed to Purawisata Amphitheatre for dinner and a show. The concierge hailed two becak, and off we went through the warm night breeze. The buffet offered both traditional and international dishes, and the Ramayana ballet was dynamic and unforgettable.Mum was first to grab a selfie with Hanoman — joy in motion.

Day 6: Yogyakarta
Borobudur & Mie Jawa

We rose before dawn for our Borobudur structural visit, booked weeks in advance via Traveloka. It’s a two-hour drive from downtown, so planning ahead is key. Our guide was both informative and entertaining, bringing the ancient stupas to life.Afterward, we lunched with extended family and paused at Suara Dewan Daru Coffee Shop — a quiet caffeine break with character. Dinner was at Bakmi Jawa Mbah Gito, where the noodles tasted like home and tradition.

Day 7: Yogyakarta
Slow Wanders & Prambanan

We slowed down. A leisurely breakfast at Jambuluwuk — hot dishes, local fruits, and quiet joy. Then a walk through alleyways to Pasar Beringharjo for souvenirs, followed by gudeg at Warung Bu Lies on Jalan Wijilan — sweet, earthy, unforgettable. From there, we hailed a Grab and headed to Prambanan Temple, where stone silhouettes danced in the afternoon light. After a quick refresh back at the hotel, we dressed for our farewell dinner at Bale Raos — a royal culinary send-off with sultan-level service.

Day 8: Depart to Bali
Transition & Reflection

No grand itinerary today — just packing, reflecting, and preparing for the next leg. Yogyakarta gave us temples, theatre, and tenderness. It was a chapter of movement and meaning.

Days 8–10: Munduk

We left Java for Bali, this time round we didn't mess about, we landed on the island and straight on transit on land to the North of the Bali. That evening we were hugged by the jungle in a hut, with waterfall sound in the background. When we woke up the next morning, the rain pour heavily, but we didn't fret. We put on our ponchos and mountain sandals and off to trek the Munduk Waterfalls. The next day, thankfully, it's dry. We went to do another trek at the Lake Tamblingan and transfer on a wooden boat to an ancient temple.

A gate to a villa in Sidemen, partially a plunge pool is in sight and the background is paddy field.

Days 11–13: Sidemen

After all the waterfalls and trekking in the jungle, we transit on land for East Bali. We booked two villas at an accommodation in Sidemen. It's sit in the middle of a paddy field and each have a plunge pool. It was so peaceful, I could just stay in and be very happy. We have a couple of full days planned on this side of Bali, we visited the mother temple of the island and finally have our first beach day. This is my personal favourite beach in Bali, the Bias Tugel beach. Tucked away, basic eatery, but it has super fine white sand.

Days 14–15: Nusa Lembongan

After that taste of beach day, we're got in a boat and head to Nusa Lembongan. This time round we're staying beachfront and sleep with the sound of wave. We slept deeply here in our little huts with sea view.We only have one full day to explore the island, so we gone ahead and rent a couple of motorbikes. The island isn't very big, we did that easily. We even had the chance to go to the mangrove forest and had a boat trip in there.

Iconic dream beach swing overlooking the Indian Ocean, Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia.

Days 16–18: Jimbaran & Departure

No trip to Bali is complete without seafood dinner at Jimbaran, with sea breeze embracing your body, sand caressing your toes and sunset in your eyes. This time round we also had Balinese white wine - which was quite enjoyable. On our last evening of the journey, we went and watch Kecak dance in an outdoor amphitheatre within the Uluwate Temple complex. We arrived early to ensure we have time for some photos, and then watch the show while the sun start to set. The farewell dinner were solemn, we each shared our personal favourite moment - and hopeful for the next time we travel together again :)
